The Inauguration of Imam Ahmad ibn Idris Chair of Islamic Studies, University of Mohammad V, Rabat, Morocco

The Imam Ahmad ibn Idris Academic Chair of Islamic Studies was successfully inaugurated today at the University of Mohammad V, Rabat, Morocco.

The Inauguration ceremony officiated by the President of the University, Professor Dr Said Amzazi was held at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

This academic chair will be focusing on the studies related to the methodologies of Imam Ahmad ibn Idris in the field of sacred knowledge and da’wah which was initially established at As-Sofa Islamic College, Malaysia.

The Chairman of As-Sofa Islamic College, Dato’ Syeikh Muhammad Fuad Kamaluddin, witnessed the ceremony. He was the recipient of the Gold Medal Award of University of Mohammad V, being awarded in conjunction during the 60th anniversary celebration of this University, which was established in 1957.

Among the distinguished guests present in the ceremony were, Mayor of Rabat; Ibrahim Jumani, Ambassador of Sudan in Morocco;  Suliman Abdel Toweb Elzein. Government of Morocco Parliamentary representative;  Dr Hassan Amri. Acting Ambassador of Malaysia in Morocco;  Shahrul Nizam Abdul Malek. Chief Justice of Shariah Court of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia; Dato’ Mohd Shukor Sabudin and The Foreign Affairs Advisor of As-Sofa Islamic College; Professor Dr. Wahab al Tazi al Hasan al Idrisi who is also the Grand Shaykh of the Ahmadiah Idrisiah Tariqah together with his deputy; Dr. Muhammad al Mujaddidi al Hasan al Idrisi.

Professor Dr Said Azizi postulated in his speech, that this centre, Imam Ahmad ibn Idris Academic Chair will widen further opportunities and increases both research and publication works, jointly to be conducted by both As-Sofa Islamic College and University of Mohammad V.

He continues, by establishing this academic chair, affirms the university’s commitments and dedication to the in-depth study of this great scholar’s tradition and sacred knowledge, the Grand Imam Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris.

Two representatives from each institution, As-Sofa Islamic College and the University will be collaborating closely, in managing and administrating this centre.

The centre of this Academic Chair was officiated by Dato’ Syeikh Muhammad Fuad in the presence of Professor Dr. Abdul Wahad al Tazi.

This centre will devote to the studying of such profound effectiveness and importance impact to the da’wah works and reforms efforts of Imam Ahmad ibn Idris. Its influence spread far into the vast eastern regions of the Islamic world and is still growing until today.

The creation of this Academic Chair was inspired by Dato’ Syeikh Muhammad Fuad and was given the seal of approval from the descendants of Imam Ahmad ibn Idris, Professor Dr. Wahab al Tazi al Hasan al Idrisi and Dr. Muhammad al Mujaddidi al Hasan al Idrisi.

Establishing this academic chair is a successful follow up from earlier academic collaboration between As-Sofa Islamic College Malaysia and University of Mohammad V. This will bring to light and will disclose to the world who this great grand scholar is.

The Chief Executive of As-Sofa Islamic College, Mohd Sufi Ibrahim, iterated in his speech, no other Educational Institutions or Universities in the world has set up such a centre except here in Morocco. This is the world’s first Academic Chair dedicated to the grand Imam Ahmad ibn Idris, and Morocco happens to be his birthplace.

He continues by restating the main focus of this academic chair is to dedicate the historical compilation, academic research, in-depth study and preservation of original manuscripts and new publication relating solely to the grand Imam Ahmad ibn Idris. His teachings, methodologies and historical development of his school of thought.
